About the AVID Program at Churchill High SchoolThe AVID program at Churchill High School is a college-prep elective class open to 9th - 12th graders and it's a school wide set of research-based instructional practices to improve success for all students.
The AVID students at Churchill are capable of completing college-prep curriculum and have a strong desire to attend college. The AVID curriculum is designed to help students fulfill their potential; academic instruction, tutorial support, and motivational activities help keep each student on track in high school and prepares them for the rigor of college. Students apply to be interviewed for the program and, if selected, choose AVID for one of their elective classes each year. AVID students conduct socratic tutorials twice a week, engage in rigorous AVID curriculum (includes: Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, and Reading), and participate in both college visits and team building.
